The main Irish law dealing with data protection is the Data Protection Act 1988. The 1988 Act was amended by the Data Protection (Amendment) Act 2003. An administrative consolidation of the law is available here .
The 2003 Amendment Act brought our law into line with the EU Data Protection Directive 95/46/EC.

Electronic Privacy Regulations
The ePrivacy Regulations 2011 (S.I. 336 of 2011) deal with data protection for phone, e-mail, SMS and Internet use. They give effect to the EU e Privacy Directive 2002/58/EC (as amended by Directive 2006/24/EC and 2009/136/EC).
